THE DARK KNIGHT: CHARACTER ANALYSIS
The Dark Knight is a 2008 superhero film, co-produced and co-written by Christopher Nolan. The story revolves around Batman (Bruce Wayne), who keeps Gotham City safe from crime along with his comrades, Lt. Jim Gordon and DA Harvey Dent. When Joker, a vile and young criminal throws Gotham into chaos, Batman starts walking the thin line of being a hero and a villain.
Vocalisation: Batman has a hoarse voice, which helps him hide the fact that he is Bruce Wayne. Everyone knows him as he has talked on TV, thus, if he wasn't talking in a hoarse voice while being Batman, things would get really hard for him.
The Joker has a high-pitched and squeaky voice, as expected from a clown. This is of course until he yells and roars. When he does that, the sound is so disturbing that sounds as if he's come from a nightmare.
Costumes: Batman acts at night and he is an intimidating individual, who makes sure to have the criminals in Gotham City fear him. Thus, his costume is all-black, with a long black cape and a cowl. He also wears body armor so that he can be protected from bullets and from getting permanently hurt.
In the case of Joker, he wears purple and green suits, which are handmade and that makes him able to hide his identity. Because the most important thing for him is anonymity. No one can trace him through his tailored threads, so they won't know who he is or where's he from.
Ideals: Batman wants only one thing. For Gotham people to have hope again. He wants them to know that there is no reason for them to surrender to criminals, or anyone who wants to harm them. He wants them to take their city back from those who destroy it with their own powers. Also, Batman has an important rule he set to himself. No killing.
Joker, on the other hand, is the exact opposite of Batman. He believes that deep down everyone is as corrupted as he is. He thinks that if he pushes them hard enough, the people in the city will turn into real monsters. Joker has a problem with rules as well. He sees every little thing as breaking a rule, and loathes how people can be such hypocrites. The last part of the movie feels like a test to see whose philosophy will crack first.
